My 5 Year Old Daughter Witnessed This Accident From Her School Bus in Nashville AKA Is this the kind of town you want to live in?

I was forwarded the information below by The Hillwood Listserv this week.  Surprisingly, last night, my 5 year old daughter randomly said she saw a woman being struck by a car out of her bus window.  Sadly, I think these events are one and the same.

Pedestrian struck at Abbott Martin

September 24, 2014

At 7:45 a.m. on Monday, September 22, an elderly pedestrian was struck and critically injured while crossing Abbott Martin Road at Cross Creek Road. The pedestrian has been identified as Grace Mason, 85, of the 2200 block of Abbott Martin Road.
Mason, who was in the cross walk, was hit by a 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche, which was being driven by Colton Reeder, 17. Reeder was attempting to turn left from Cross Creek onto Abbott Martin. Reeder stated that the traffic light was green, which would have made the cross walk light green for Mason.

Reeder said he glanced down at the console and did not see Mason as he turned. She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. As of press time, Mason is in critical condition at VUMC. There was no indication of alcohol or drug involvement. The preliminary investigation indicates that failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk is the primary contributing factor to the collision.

I encourage you to view these articles, particularly the comments.  Maybe you will want to add something to the conversation.

Even more strongly, I encourage you to attend the Mayoral Candidate Coffee on Walkability.

Nashville Needs Sidewalks & apparently much more defined pedestrian protections.

Help make Nashville a safer place for pedestrians.

Drivers:  You MUST yield to pedestrians.  Pedestrians always have the right of way.

There is never a time that is ok to hit a walker.  You cannot argue with that…
