Why We Need Sidewalks Now in Nashville

The Nashville-Davidson County Strategic Plan for Sidewalks and Bikeways has lain fallow as of late.  The original plan included at least 20 miles of new sidewalks per year.  But, during the last 2 years, only 3 miles of new sidewalks have been completed.

Meanwhile, attitudes towards walkability are rapidly changing.  Today, the top 3 reasons individuals choose not to relocate to Nashville are poor schools, lack of public transportation and absent sidewalks.

Public Works is responsible for the sidewalks that exist, particularly bringing them into ADA compliance but appears less motivated or able to create new sidewalks. Funding is the reason most cited.

So, my question to you is - do you want sidewalks?

What would adding sidewalks to your street do for you?
